If you own a Google Pixel 2 / Google Pixel 2 XL and facing over-heating and battery drainage, you might not be alone.

Several Pixel users are complaining about over-heating of their devices post the February security updates. In a Reddit post, one of the Pixel 2 XL user complained about the battery drainage issue and pointed out the battery is dropping to 40% in less than an hour and over heats more than expected. There were several other users facing the same issue.

Some users tried finding out the battery usage pattern but nothing looked suspicious. Users are facing this problem only after the February Security updates and factory reset is not working either. The same has been reported in a Google Forums too.

The issue varies for different users, some are severely affecting with less than 3 hours of on-screen time while some are not affected at all. I own a Pixel 2 myself and I'm on the latest security patch that covers this Feb update too, however I didn't observe any battery issues nor over-heating.

Here's a screenshot of my Phone's battery performance. It was charged almost 3 hours back and on screen usage just around 10 min. I am not wrong if I say I am not affected by the overheating issues and battery problems.

Since so many users are affected, that too precisely after the update, calling it a hardware problem may not be true. There is no official confirmation from Google and we hope Google fixes it in the next update. As of now, if you have not updated your phone - its better to avoid it for sometime!

Update 1 : In one of the Forum threads, a user suggested to clear all data for Google Play service to fix the loose connections and it worked for one of the user whose primary battery usage was from the Google Playstore. If it's the same case for you, go to Settings > App & notifications > See all apps > Google Play services > Storage > Manage space > Clear all data.

One of the Google Community Manager wanted a detailed bug report from the user to look into the issue further. Seems like it has got some attention.

Are you a Pixel user and facing similar issues? Tell us in the comments if its one of them or both - overheating and battery issue.
