The other day I was trying to set up Face Unlock feature for Google Pixel 2. All was good except that the Trusted face option was deactivated and a message was displayed saying "Disabled by Administrator". I didn't remember doing it anytime and it was a bit frustrating.
There were similar problems faced by many other Pixel users all over the world, so it was certainly not a region-problem. I was soon able to find out the root cause though.
It was actually the Outlook app which was creating problem. Outlook was forcing a device policy that monitored and controlled the locking and unlocking of my phone along with the password rules. Outlook Device Policy allows the app to set password rules, monitor screen unlock attempts, control how and when screen locks and set storage encryption.
Disabling it solved the disabled by administrator problem for me.
How to fix disabled by administrator problem
- To disable this option, go to Security & location > Device admin apps.
- Under Outlook Device Policy, you will find an option to disable it.
Let me know if it fixed the problem for you in the comment section.
