I had bought a Google Pixel 2 last month and it's a great phone. With its awesome camera and portrait mode coupled with the smoother experience, Google Pixel 2 provides the best of Android.
It is working great and everything is just top of the notch. However, something started frustrating me recently : Google Pixel 2 blank screen during a call.
All the recent smartphone comes with a proximity sensor just above the screen which turns off the screen while you are on a call to protect from any response from the touches of your cheeks and also turning off the screen light which is not necessary while on a call (which otherwise can be frustrating).
Problem:
While making a call when you put up your smartphone near your ear, the proximity sensor is active and turns off the screen. What's frustrating is even after you remove your phone from there, the screen do not lit up. All you can do it wait for the caller to disconnect your call or keep pressing power button to turn off the phone and restart it.
Solution:
If you have a screen guard, remove it. I had bought a screen guard online the day I bought Pixel 2. It didn't create any problem. There was a recent update to Android Oreo 8.1 after which I started facing the blank screen during calls. The first guess was may be it's a bug and the update has broken this. In a Google Forum, many of the Google Pixel 2 users were facing the same issue and got rid of it by removing the screen guard.
There were several issues reported, and there might be some changes to the proximity sensor sensitivity since the same screen protector was working fine with Android 8.0 and not with Android 8.1.
When I removed the screen guard, Google Pixel 2 started behaving as usual after a call.

If you removed the screen guard, make sure you clean up your screen with a soft cotton to remove the dust.
If it still doesn't work, try a factory rest. If you are facing the same issue, the proximity sensor might be damaged and you should go for a exchange or return!
If you don't want to remove the screen guard (as ordering and receiving one might take some time), you can use the power button to disconnect a call in Google Pixel 2.
Let me know in the comments if it solved your blank screen during call in Pixel 2.
